The City is recruiting to hire seasonal help to support the various activities within the Public Works Maintenance Division, including: Wastewater, Streets, Stormwater, Water, and Parks.
Duties for these positions may include but are not limited to: performing routine tasks such as weed-eating, raking, mowing, shoveling and other means of mechanical vegetation control; litter pick-up; pothole patching, pavement striping, buildings and other public facilities repair and maintenance; traffic control in a work zone of a city right-of-way; cleaning and painting fire hydrants and/or roadway curbs; installing water meters; jetting sewer lines, assisting employees with various public works related maintenance tasks; and performing other duties as assigned.
Hours and Duration:
Work days will be Monday – Friday (30-40 hours per week depending on workload), generally 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Position starts in June and runs through September dependent upon specific work activity needs. Position is scheduled to end no later than September 30, 2013. This position is part time temporary per union guidelines and is not eligible for union benefits.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in maintenance or other related work is preferred. Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of /experience with relevant power and hand tools is desired.
Licenses and Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire. Must have a driving record that meets City standards. Possession of a valid flagging card and/or an adult first aid/CPR card is desirable.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work environment subject to seasonal heat and adverse weather conditions; driving a vehicle and operating equipment to conduct work; and exposure to traffic, noise, hazardous materials and fumes. Incumbents are required to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, stand and/or walk over rough and uneven ground. Position requires physical stamina, manual dexterity, hearing and visual acuity.
