Volunteer Positions

The City of Granite Falls will be creating Adopt-A-Street and Adopt-A-Park programs in 2010.  Service Organizations, Citizen Groups, Businesses, and individual volunteers are encouraged to participate in these programs to help keep our streets and parks looking clean and safe for all of us to enjoy. 

 

Planning Commission

The City of Granite Falls is looking to fill two vacant positions on its Planning Commission Board.

The Planning Commission consists of six members and a planning consultant, who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council.  Members shall be selected without respect to political affiliations and they shall serve without compensation.

The Planning Commission meets on the Second and Fourth Tuesdays of each month.  The meetings start at 7pm.

Parks Commission

The Park Board is a created of four members appointed by the Mayor, with the consent of the City Council from citizens of recognized fitness for such positions who live within the Granite Falls area.  This is a voluntary position and no compensation will be received for your service. 

Appointment: The Mayor shall appoint with the consent of the Council, two members for a three-year term, one member for a two-year term and one member for a one-year term.

Duties:  The park board is an advisory board to the City Council.  The board shall have the duty to make recommendations and report to the City Council.  The board is responsible to oversee and report to Council regarding all cultural and recreational activity that will employ the leisure time of the people in a constructive and wholesome manner, including but not limited to all parks, play and recreational grounds, recreational facilities, ball fields, community buildings and community events.  The board shall review, oversee report and make recommendations to the Council regarding all aspects of planning, promoting, operating, managing, maintaining, improving, developing, constructing, and acquiring city property, structures, equipment, activities, and events relating to cultural, recreational of "park" purpose, specifically including grant application, donations and the setting of fees and regulations.
